Today on the Tactical Training Group e-mail list an impromptu practical rifle match was announced.  The details of the match have not been released.  As we know more about the match we will post updates.

This is what we know so far:

Sunday, September 28, 2008 - SKS/AK-47 Match

Where?
Arab Practical Shooting Club
Time?
9:00 am Setup 10:00 am Shoot
Cost? $15.00 to Shoot
Contact?
Email Scott Rand - Match Director for e-mail

The message on the board from the Match Director:  Congratulations from BGM Tactical Weapons Team on the 1st year B-day Party:

Shooters,
I will not be able to put on a match this Saturday or Sunday. I have a set of grand twins with a one year old birthday party Saturday. Arab club is having a mass clean-up on Sunday. So, how about we have a match on Sunday the 28th of September. A match on Saturday will mess with the IDPA HGC match. Don’t want to do that. Since this will be on an odd day, how about we have an odd match. Lets drag out and dust off those AK47’s and SKS’s. Take them to the Arab range a shoot until the barrels melt off. One stage will require you to shoot from the hip just like you see on Fox News. While you are running… If you don’t have a gun to shoot, come anyway and bring some 7.62×39 or 5.45×39 ammo. Bring at least 100 rounds. Two classes to shoot in. Mags and stripper clips.. Should be lots of fun. We will start around 9:00 am. Set up at 8:oo. $15.00 to shoot. $20.00 to watch us make fools of ourselves.

See you then,
Scott

After re-reading the match description it seems that this is just going to be some organized fun for bragging rights of who is a better shooter. Plus it is reason enough to dust of the ol’ SKS you bough 15 years ago for $50 and test out some of the 30,000 rounds of the Norinco you’ve had in storage for 20 years. It sounds like it could be a loosely run stage setup where we can go out meet the North Alabama shooters and make friends. You can count me in. What about you? I plan to reach out and let them know how many people we are going to bring up with us. I have three so far. Let me know asap.

Match Update/Correction

Recently we updated that the tactical rifle match is in 8 days when in fact at the time of this posting it is 14 days away.

Since we got the days confused a couple of us are going to try out another type of match next Saturday August 23rd.  The match format is practical/tactical shotgun and pistol.

Details of the match:

Saturday, August 23, 2008 - Practical/Tactical Match

Where?
Bocks Gap Training Center - Steel City Shooting Sports Association
Off of South Shades Crest Road in Hoover, AL
Map/Directions
What?
Pistol & Shotgun - 100 Rds Pistol - Box of Shotgun Shells
Time?
9:00 - Typically, the safety meeting starts before and first shots fired at 9:00am. So be there early!!!
Contact?
E-mailMark Edwards or Mario Aguirre - Match Director’s for further information.

From the Steel City Website:

Practical/Tactical Match

In response to the demand for a multiple-gun match, we have turned the Practical Handgun Match into the Practical/Tactical - Handgun/Shotgun Match.

Every 4th Saturday beginning at 9:00am, we will be holding our 2-Gun match. So go dust off your tactical shotgun, or bird gun - we’re not picky - and get some shot-shells for it. Regardless of whether you have a run-of-the-mill Mossberg 500, a beefed-up 590 or Remington 870, or a top-of-the line Wilson Scattergun, come see what you can do with it when the timer is running.

Rules are simple, as usual: multiple stages, each set-up for a handgun and shotgun scenario. For the handgun, the rules remain the same: any reasonable pistol or revolver (if in doubt, contact me), stock or custom, optics or not - each type will compete in it’s own class. Single stacks shoot against single-stacks and hi-caps against hi-caps. Likewise for the shotguns, pump and semi-auto in its own class. Ammunition is restricted to #7, #7 1/2 or #8 bird shot. No buckshot, slugs or magnum loads allowed. No speed-loaders allowed for the shotguns.

Those of you familiar with our Practical Match already know to bring lots of ammo. We like to shoot, and then shoot some more. Estimate 100 handgun rounds and one box of shotgun shells, at a minimum. Handgun holsters are encouraged but not required.

Targets will be a combination of reactive steel, static steel and paper. You may be required to engage targets through doorways, through windows or while seated at a card table - you never know! Develop your accuracy and speed while negotiating your way through fun and challenging courses.

Gates will open at 8:30 with the shooting starting at 9:00. Bring a friend. Let’s get more people involved in the shooting sports. We welcome all levels of competitors, from novice to expert. If you have any questions, contact me at maguirre@bellsouth.net. See you there on the 4th Saturday.

Eye Protection and Hearing Protection are Mandatory - no exceptions. Safety first, always.

BGM T-Shirt Design

Posted on August 11, 2008
Filed Under BGM, Competition, Tactical Rifle | Leave a Comment

In preparation for the upcoming Tactical Rifle Match at the end of the month we are looking to beat the heat with a new T-Shirt.  Back in the spring we order t-shirts that were a heavy cotton and black, not the best shirt for the weather.

The new proposed shirt is a wicking athletic tee with lighter colors and smaller screen printed logo’s.  The t-shirts come with a nice price about $30 plus tax and shipping.  We hope to place an order within the next few days to ensure delivery. If you are interested in ordering send us your T-shirt Size, number of shirts, and pledge you are going to pay.

To see the t-shirt use the web gadget below:

The gadget was breaking our page and if you would like to see it I can pass the the link along to you.

BGM Member Goes for the Border

A BGM member posted on their shooting sports blog that they are seeking a job with US Customs and border patrol. Read Bullet Boy’s Post about applying to the US Border Patrol.  Just becuase he has begun his application does not mean he is in.  The journey to become an agent last almost 2 years.  He will be keeping us updated on the process.  We are proud of him and support his decision to serve our country as a civil servant.

This Saturday we talked about getting together for practice at the FOP range. I haven’t heard much talk about it since last week when we snuck in an impromptu long range sight in sight it.

So the question is do we want to practice or go to the Steel City IPSC/USPSA pistol match. Me, Bullet Boy, is thinking about going to the match.

The match format for pistol will be 6 stages with an estimated 110-170 rounds. The match begins at 10:00 am at the action pistol ranges at Steel City Shooting Sports Association.
