Be careful when out and about around the fireworks, boats, and generally safe. In lots of places, like Al, this is the weekend of highest vehicle accidents and fatalities. Be careful.
A couple points of business. As you know last week and this week we have undergone some changes in the back end. There are more changes to come.
One of our members has taken an entrenurial idea steemed from the BGM website. He started Shooting Sports Blog.
We will be merging our blog over to their system. The exact method has not yet been decided but we will be voluntarily moving over. When we get the exact details we will be sharing them.
As a promotion for the site with easy registration you will be registering for your own blog as well as being a memeber over at the forum where you can discuss and get solutions to questions about shooting sports. When the shooting sports store is up and running you will be able to use the same information over secure connections to make purchases. The store is the furthest away in being complete. So take a look over at shooting sports blog and offer suggestions wher eyou would like to see it go.

Welcome to the new Server Home of BGMtactical.com. Late Friday night we began a semi-planned server migration. Due to unforseen problems, isn’t that always the case, it took most of the weekend.
Due to the great people over at Media Temple we are back up and running.

Dillion XL 550 in prodcution

Over the past few days I have posted about receiving a Dillon 550 progressive press reloading system. Remember when I said that I was getting an indestructible system. Well within a few minute time period I break two primer punch pins, got a primer stuck in a pickup tube, and mangled a primer cup. So give it to me to render a machine unusable until I can get the new parts from my new friend Brian Enos.
The machine pumped out 500+ .40&W and about 100 .223 Remington before the melt down. It was probably due a break. I need to find the preventive maintenance measures before I get to much farther. I know some of those pivot points on that machine needs a drop of oil and something needs to be cleaned. Do you have any routine things I should be doing?
Enjoy the pictures of my Gunsmithing Shop and home to my Dillon 550.

Dillon 550B

I received my RL 550B Dillon progressive press via FedEx Home Delivery. It took several hours to assemble it and get everything setup. Besides the self induced frustration of setup (Watch the video before putting the press together!) it went together well.

The press looks well built, is sturdy, and very blue. Don’t mistake the pictures as it is really that color blue. No matter how great you think you are at assembling things… This machine will kill your ego. Before you even tighten your first nut you have to watch the 1985 Dillon Precision VHS Tape. I don’t know if it really was made in 1985, but it really had a VHS tape. The printed instructions might be older and even worse than the video. It actually took a combination of the video, black & white photo instructions, and an engineering degree to get it assembled. The machine is fantastic after you get it assembled. The DP people need to get together with the IKEA folks for a set of assembly instructions. Or, just maybe I have grown used to hole A goes into hole A, B to B, C to C, etc.
After watching the tape, engineering for dummies, and physics 101 the press is together is pumping out some serious rounds. I loaded almost 200 rounds in about 2.5 hours. Now I just wish I couldn’t shoot 200 rounds and hour. Tomorrow I might make a little trip back to the FOP range to test fire a few of the rounds to test my reloading skills.
After I clean up my new Dillon RL 550B work station I will try and take a few pictures to share.
Steel Plate Competition - Follow Up

Today we had a great time at our first Pleasant Grove FOP Range Steel Plate Competition. We did have a showing in the Novice category but no victory.

The competition was structured differently than what we were used to with Rifles. We shot from a stationary position with steel plates at distances of up 25 yards. There were 4 stages with 5 targets each. We engaged each stage in succession and were allowed 1 mulligan.
BGM shot the match with all production semi-automatic weapons. Since the watch was divided into auto and revolver each having only two classes a “race gun” has an almost unfair advantage being only able to shoot the limitation of the weapon.
