Don’t forget that this Saturday we have the Pistol Steel Plate Match at Pleasant Grove FOP. In addition to the steel plate match we will be having a 3 Gun Practice. We plan to run a couple different style stages with walls, steel plates, sporting clays, and silhouette targets. We may also have a couple swingers in place. The swingers will be on loan form Lee Knobloch.
Lee has been kind enough to grant us use of his personal swingers. Lee is a fantastic pistol competitor and if you ever want to know something about shooting or just want to chat give him a call over at the FOP range, 205.744.2600.
Hopefully the weather will be good. We always go even in inclimate weather. It adds to practical action of the the shoot. Check the weather.

Back in April we posted about the possibility of Bullet Serialization. We are happy to report that action was not taken on it. We are unsure if it was not voted on or had an up or down vote. Regardless the legislative session is over and that means the bill is no longer.
If we have any new information come up we will keep you posted.

Today I order a Dillon Precision 550. For those that don’t know - the Dillon 550 is a progressive reloading press. Dillon has been the premier manufacturer of progressive ammo reloading presses for years. Several of our members reload and I have not. When I set out I knew that I would need everything to get started. So where does a novice reloader turn? That was easy part!
After weeks of reading, talking, and weighing the options I landed on a third party retailer and guru of reloading, Brian Enos. If you check around on the internet you will find great reviews of Brian’s. I spoke with Brain this afternoon and agree with the reviews. If you want to know about anything Dillon call him, 1-877-219-5598.
So why Dillion as opposed with any of the others. That is also simple. The warranty, market saturation, reputation, and customer service. With so many moving parts something is bound to break right? Everyone talks about how the 550 wont break. I don’t buy into that as I can break anything. So when making an investment I go with something that “wont break” and if it does has a “No BS Warranty”.
Since I didn’t have most of the reloading gear I order one of the “EZ-Buy Packages“. Though there isn’t a discount for ordering the package the simplicity and ease is worth it. The prices with Brian are the same as MSRP and the shipping is free. Since the shipping is free it is cheaper than MSRP. There are a few online retailers around that offer similar packages but none seem to be as complete Brian’s. Plus their prices are marked up from MSRP.
I expect the reloading press the end of this week or the begining of next. I am sure to post more about the 550b as I have lots of build up for it.
What do you think of your reloading press?
Rant: Where is the Gun Marketing

We have all heard the stories about the internet making people millions. Well, why hasn’t the shooting industry joined in?
- Gun people aren’t tech savvy?
- They can’t use computers?
- They are are unorganized?
- Maybe all of the above?
We happen to think not. Someone hasn’t come along and entered into the heavy competition for marketing over the internet. Which by our calculations is a bad thing. For instance… If you are looking for a “NHO Magwell” on Google, or Yahoo you couldn’t find one. So if somebody spent a little time and learned to market gun products on the internet it would make life easier for the shooters doing the shopping and make somebody lots of money.
There sites like bizrate.com or yahoo shopping. But what do those companies know about guns and gun accessories? Nothing. What if somebody came along and made a Amazon style website? That would revolutionize the weapon industry. Lots of people have a website but they are so poor it is hard even for advanced internet users. Maybe a single company with the capital and the right internet marketing direction will come along soon. If you get some ideas from this post give us credit for the inspiration. If it is good enough we might even promote it on our site.
As a question what do you think of the internet gun shopping business? What are your favorite sites? What type of things do you buy from them?
Though we are not marketing or selling anything as a team… We use the services of Birmingham SEO Service, to help promote shooting through search engines. We don’t pay for anything when it comes to the website. The owner of the Search Engine Optimization Service is a member of our team and provides basic design, layout, SEO, and all around technical know how for our website. So if you want to discuss ideas them about improving your online gun business contact Birmingham SEO and tell them you saw this article and receive a very willing and helpful person.

Where is the master list for shooting competition schdules? We have to yet find any central location for a Match schedule. We have an event calender for our team but where is the master list for Competitions?
Since we can’t find one you are more than welcome to contact us to add an event to our calender and we would be happy to promote it with a blog post. Somebody could make promoting shooting a lot easier with a website and official calender. Of course to do that they would need to take the bureaucracy out of getting added to the schedule.
We are installing and working on a new calender application. Following post will detail the requirements needed to post to the calender.

In April we posted about the the Ruger LCP .380 and the Kel Tec. It seems to have been a long journey and waiting list but a member of the BGM Tactical Team has purchased one. Lucky’s Gun Store in Cropwell, Alabama had one in stock or at least about to hit the shelf. The price was slightly higher and a distant drive from our favorite Simmons Sporting Goods. The price and drive have proven to be worth it as the weapon is fun and exactly as expected.
The LCP 380 is not an everyday shooter as it is not a heavy duty service style weapon. It is however more comfortable than the Kel-Tec. If it wasn’t for the difference in the grip you wouldn’t be able to tell the Kel-Tec from the Ruger.
During the testing of the pistol we also had a Kel-Tec and the same ammunition, wolf full metal jackets with the standard wolf steel case. With the same shooter moments apart they both performed exceptionally well. Even at 100 yards they hit the target. 100 yards with a .380 is a long distance that is far beyond the practical usage of the weapon. After about 15 rounds through the Kel-Tec feed errors and ejector problems plagued the pistol. The Kel-Tec is about 1 year old has had almost 100 rounds fired through it and was probably due for a full break down and cleaning. None-the-less in this side-by-side comparison the Ruger LCP .380 outperformed the Kel-Tec P3AT.
If you have the opportunity to purchase the LCP 380 we highly recommend it. If price is the issue then the Kel-Tec P3AT is a good choice and probably easier to obtain. If you are going for style go for the Ruger. If you are looking just for a daily carry pistol or pocket pistol the choice is yours.

This Saturday May 24th the Bull Gana Tactical Weapons Team is having another practice at the Pleasant Grove FOP shooting range.
We will have stages setup compatible with tactical rifle as the primary purpose. We plan to incorporate a little bit of 3 gun competition into it. Some of the setups will be setup for shotguns and pistol as well.
We will have a couple swinging silhouette targets, a shooting house, steel plates, and standard silhouette targets. Hopefully we will add a couple other little things to give it a full scence. If you have some type of safe target or shooting house you would like to bring it. Also any PVC pipe, screen, roll plastic that can be turned into a blind, shooting house, prop that would be great. Bring it along and add to the true tactical reality would be fun. All are welcome to join us. Our ranges can be shot with pistol, shot gun, and especially rifle.
Come out to Pleasant Grove FOP Saturday around 10:30. We will be there rain or shine.
We hastily put together a map for you to follow along your journey. If you have questions or just want to drop us a line to expect you come on. If you are venturing to PGFOP you may want to take note of their phone number for directions 744-2600.
Black Gun Backlog

Several BGM Tactical members have been trying to custom order new rifles and have learned there is a backlog. It is nothing unusual for custom Black Guns to be on backorder for a month or 6 weeks. But, right now quotes are about 6 months. Six months isn’t so bad because it is in time for Christmas. The bad part is the rifle shooting season is over in lots of places due to the weather. Kind of disappointing but there is always next year.
Yes if you go to your local gun store there are AR-15’s on the rack. The delay is in the custom rifles, more specifically the .308 caliber. The customizations most of the members are asking for are just luxury upgrades as the standard setup is more than enough capable of rifle competition. Many of the upgrades have nothing to do with the actual function of the weapon. In fact many of the upgrades can be made on your basement work bench with a screwdriver. The customization that shouldn’t be done at home is what is taking so long.
We had a member contact DPMS directly to see if they could speed a .308 through and they said it was virtually impossible. So if you are in the market for AR15 rifle you may want to go with an off the rack rifle and have your gunsmith customize it for you.
Beware that if you want a custom rifle production is running abnormally behind schedule.
NOTE: The price of ammo has been increasing at about the same rate as fuel. So you may want to think about increasing your supply. If you know of another retailer with good prices feel free to comment and let everyone know. Able Ammo seems to have a great selection and competetive pricing.
Shooting Practice Follow-UP

Saturdays practice went well. We didn’t start until mid-day due to the weather. After we got setup we had several people trickle in throughout the day and shot for several hours. We had several different stage setups.
For the shooting practice we used some new steel targets that we learned from. We had made some hanging steel targets made of a mild steel. We learned that the steel we used in the targets was not hard or tough enough. The standard full metal jacket .223 caliber ammo we were using was creating major impressions and mis-shaping the steel plates almost to the point of total penetration. We used the plates during warm-up until a ricochet tapped a shooter on the shoulder. We immediately called a cease-fire and analyzed the steel plates. We took down the steel plates and are now going back to the drawing board.
The next steel targets need to be made from a thicker and harder steel. Perhaps something as hard as military armor plating. Due to the heavy weight, high cost, and lack of portability steel plates maybe have to put on hold. The hanging steel plate design may need some type of light material to hang down to the steel plate. Perhaps something like rubber from an old conveyor belt may be a good solution. A design idea maybe something like the ones listed in this forum will be in our design plans.
We don’t have a practice scheduled before our next competition on May 31st at Steel City Shooting Sports Association in Hoover.
